The Playground is an panfandom open sandbox slice of life game with very little in the way of overarching plot. It's pretty much all just for the fun of getting together and playing with friends the old school way without all that other stuff getting in the way (applications, activity checks, character limits, etc).

Also, no original characters for now, but if there's enough of a demand, we reserve the right to change our minds later.

You wake up on a boat.
In all likelihood you didn't fall asleep on a boat, but that doesn't matter very much -- what's done is done and now you're here, sailing into the New York Harbor. Ellis Island's main immigration building comes into view and if you've seen it before, it's perhaps not quite what you remember. There are too many windows, too many modern sharp angles, and way too many naval officers in strangely unfamiliar uniforms stationed around the island. Before you have a chance to ask, before you even have time the think of the question, the boat's captain welcomes you to Manhattan... in the year 2025.

The registry room you are brought to is expansive and clean. There is a short wait before an attendant calls you by name, smiles, and hands you a package. Inside you will find a ( map of Manhattan,  )

and an envelope that contains a keycard of some sort, a credit card in your name and a thousand dollars cash. The attendant apologizes for the inconvenience and he seems genuine; there has been an interdimensional incident that is preventing people from leaving the island, and, although you have been pulled here to help, there is certainly no obligation. As soon as it is resolved, you should be able to get back home.

Until then, he says, please enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. We're sure it'll be taken care of soon.

The great thing about the play_ground is that it's largely player run, except for the few mysteries surrounding the inception of the island and the overarching metaplot. This post is to make suggestions about the who, what, where, when, and why. As long as it doesn't interfere with the aforementioned game unknowns, if you suggest it, it will be true.

For example, you may know that the color (and name) for yellow cabs was selected as the result of a survey which indicated that yellow was the easiest color to spot. What if, in our game's history, the survey had gone a different direction, and people surveyed chose orange? Or lime green? All cabs would be orange or lime green.

THE WORLD IS YOUR PLAYGROUND. LITERALLY.
